2024-2025

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

(update September 2024)

Last May the farewell theatre tour with Youp van 't Hek called 'De Laatste Ronde' (the last round) ended after more than two years. Probably these shows also mark the end of my own 50+ year career on stage, although you never know of course. In April my latest album 'Achter De Schermen' (behind the scenes) was released, containing a selection of the music I wrote for his 26 theatre shows that resulted in just as many live albums and DVDs. This time no songs, no voice, only underscores and other instrumentals that were an integral part of the show. Contrary to my 2023 album 'Virgin Grounds', which was a true solo effort, mainly played on synthesizer, most of the music on 'Achter De Schermen' is purely acoustic, featuring instruments like piano, fiddle, accordeon, guitar, all sorts of percussion and mandoline. Other musicians are (a.o.) Rens van der Zalm, Ton Snijders en Christan Grotenbreg. Special guest on violin is the legendary Emmy Verhey. Since September 1st the album is available on all major streaming services, but if you prefer to have a physical CD you can still find it here: https://oob-records.com/artist/ton-scherpenzeel/ Don't wait too long cause we've almost run out of stock and it's uncertain whether there'll be a reprint.

My own band Kayak has also done their Farewell Tour, but that was a couple of years back already, in 2022 to be precise. A 2CD + DVD of the two last live shows ever in Holland is in the making and to be expected early 2025. As a very special extra the 2CD will feature two new, previously unreleased songs that didn't make it to our last studio album 'Out Of This World'. This final Kayak album will be called The 2022 Farewell Tour- Back To Shore. More news will follow shortly.

Last but not least, as a sort of side project (can't help myself, there's just too much music on my shelf I want everyone to hear) Friendly Folk Records have recently released a single on all digital platforms, called UnAdaDance. It's a remake of the track that was released two or three years ago as a gift for loyal fans. This version is really different and features Eddie Mulder on both electric and acoustic guitars. It's only for sale on bandcamp now, but worldwide streaming release is on October 15.
